EP Review: Vie Jester – All in Jest (Self Released)

From Los Angeles cones alternative rock band, Vie Jester! Their third EP is called All in Jest & was released in June 2017.

Jest 1

Five tracks long & jammed packed with huge riffs, rocking hooks & a pounding rhythmic beat. Please is an exciting & groovy sounding opener that combines catchy vocals with sudden injections of pace that make it clear early on that Vie Jester aren’t your ‘run of the mill’ alt-rock band.

A soft guitar melody intro holds your hand before the pace increases & things take a much more imaginative turn on Sunburn & Moonshine. The ups & downs of the track make for an addictive listen. The longer it goes the more captivating it becomes. A truly wonderful song.

That momentum is kept up for Enigmata & The Punchline. The former’s initially jarring start bleeds brilliantly into warping melody & a wickedly memorable vocal performance. While the latter is a more subtle track that is lifted by the playoff between softer verses & faster choruses.

All in Jest is an impressive offering from a rock band with a huge amount of talent in their ranks & Colourblind finishes things off strongly. The rapid-fire riffing & vocals making it sound distinctly different from the rest of the EP but also avoids sounding disconnected.
