EP Review: Meka Nism – The War Inside (Self Released)

Orlando based alternative metal band, Meka Nism will unleash their new EP ‘The War Inside’ on May 10th 2018. The EP follows on from their three previous releases Live From the Machine Shop (Live CD) (2016), The Shift (EP) (2015) and The Dance at the End of the World (EP) (2013).

A little bit of keyboard, a thumping drum beat followed by roaring riffs leads into the blazing hot title track. A track that mixes modern metal with operatic style scope. That element comes from the incredible range on singer Ms. Meka. She can go from huge soaring melodies to heavier shouts and screams in an instant. Incredible.

The combination of blast beats and epicness gets things started with a bang before the pacey riffs of These Years of Silent Screams takes over. Trailblazer makes a solid claim for being the best track on the EP though thanks to the machine gun fire style of the riffs and drums as well as the uplifting chorus.

The final double of Arrows of Alchemy and Black Sky wrap things up. The former having plenty of feeling and depth while the latter’s soft singing and melodious first half doesn’t quite manage to keep the fire burning even when it ups its heavy game.
