EP Review: Line Of Fire – Scars (Self Released)

After years of perseverance, evolution, and overcoming immense personal challenges, Nottinghamshires Line of Fire are now set to return with their highly anticipated new EP, ‘Scars’. The 4-track release marks a significant turning point for the band, both musically and personally, and will be released on November 1st, 2024.

When Line of Fire talk about ‘scars’, they mean both the physical and emotional kind that can only come from years of hard work and perseverance. Notably, frontman Baz Shaw’s battle with cancer, line-up changes, and the COVID-19 pandemic. A whole lot of horrid situations that would have ended most bands. Yet, here Line of Fire stand and they are standing tall.

Featuring four high-powered hard rock and metal hits, Scars oozes a relatable level of emotion while also having an inherent likability that can only come from this kind of music played well. Line of Fire do rock and groove well and it shows with excitable infectious numbers like Reason and I Want Nothing. The former’s chorus catchiness is the star of that show, but the rollicking riff work and powerful vocals of the latter stand out even more.

That Line of Fire are also able to make their scars metaphor feel so tangible is even more impressive, and it ensures the triumphant reality of the title track has plenty of impact. The EP then wrapping up with one more banger called Medicine Man, and a banger that has a massive amount of feeling, while being delightfully groovy and exciting. It’s great to have them back and here’s hoping the future continues with the same amount of aplomb as this EP.
