EP Review: Greybeards – Out of the Red (Rexius Records)
Swedish rock band, Greybeards, return with their brand-new EP, ‘Out of the Red’. Out on February 14th, 2025.
Rock music in its most memorable form, there’s nothing game changing here, but that doesn’t mean everyone can’t have a mighty fine time with a bunch of tracks that guarantee the body will groove and move.
That’s the short summation of this EP and what Greybeards offer. It’s good time rock music that is inherently infectious with big anthemic choruses. Something that is prevalent from the start with the foot tapping When the Levee Breaks. The vocals are fabulous, but it’s the chorus that delivers the memorability.
Remember Me is next and brings even more melodic sweetness to the forefront, not just via some fabulous guitars, but via the vocals that holds a certain amount of vulnerability alongside immense power and range. Then along comes Holy Ghosts to ramp up the intensity, and with that, a bit more drama too, which really works. This track, more than any other, really gets under the skin and the guitar/drum combo commands attention.
With Charade, Greybeards get a bit louder in places, but again, deliver foot-tapping beats and hip-shaking groove. Before the fun and memorable EP wraps up with All Those Yesterdays, the most melancholic track of all. Morose, but super sweet, and a delightful way for the lovable EP to wrap up.
