EP Review: divedown – Where They May (Ninth Life Records)
‘Where They May’ is the debut EP of Melbourne alt-emo-rock outfit, divedown. It is out May 29th, 2026, via Ninth Life Records.

I like divedown. I like how they make me feel nostalgic, while still managing to sound fresh and modern. A difficult balance to get right in the world of alternative rock, especially when their music comes tinged with emo elements.
It’s this what makes the EP so listenable, so digestible, and all of this is showcased with aplomb on All for What, Picture my Life and Bad Way. Where emo touches and rock liveliness meet soul touching meaningfulness and memorable mainstream appeal. They are a band who effortlessly deliver authentic sounding alternative bangers with powerful lyrics and choruses that charms.
Their approach to challenging subjects is admirable and Calm Me might be the most impressive track of all. Tackling anxiety and depression in a unique musical way. It is very lively, but the passion comes from deeper and darker places. It is also an anthem, but an anthem from a more thoughtful position.
Finally, and satisfyingly, it’s Towards the Light and it’s very pretty. Don’t be surprised if your emotions spill over here.
