EP Review: Circle of Origin – Guilty ‘Til Proven Innocent (Self Released)
Newcomers to the British rock/metal scene Circle of Origin are set to independently release ‘Guilty ‘Til Proven Innocent’, their 5-track debut EP, on the 14th of March 2025.
Welcome to the party, pal! Circle of Origin are really new (forming in 2024) but they’re about to make one hell of an entrance. Bringing a spirited showcase of their rock and metal ways that shows off each member’s individual talent and how together, they prove to be a seriously creative force.
First, by bringing the heavy groove and anthemic power of Time Waits For No One to hungry ears. Then, by blurring genres and showing off a bit more of an experimental sound with the punchy Not My Fault. The dynamism of this band is front and centre with these first two tracks, and a high bar is set.
Broken marks the middle point of the EP, and a melodic shift as the band reveal something with dramatic power. Not quite a ‘power ballad’ but certainly not too far removed either. It’s really enjoyable, especially as the chorus is such a singalong, and the guitar soloing at the end is class.
Decay comes next, and takes the more melodic side of the band in a deeper and darker direction. The subtle instrumentals and raw vocals sound good, and as it goes on, it rises up, with Circle of Origin infusing more passion into it. Again, there’s some great soloing here.
Finally, and satisfyingly, it’s The Suffering. A robust riff-driven anthem layered with compelling melody and capped off with a chorus that gets jammed in the head.
The future of this band sure looks pretty bright based off this EP, doesn’t it?
