Band Interview: Into the Unknown
Games, Brrraaains & A Head-Banging Life are pleased to bring you an interview with melodic classic rock band, Into the Unknown.
1. How did you get started as a band?
Rupert was producing a song for a pop singer, and Ryan came in to do the guitar session. The two immediately got on and Rupert asked Ryan if he would be interested in a project that he fancied doing, a rocked up version of Chris DeBurgh’s Don’t Pay The Ferryman. Ryan suggested Lucie as the vocalist, as he had been in a band with her before, and it soon became clear that there was chemistry between the three.
Another cover was recorded, and then songs were written and soon they realised that they had half an albums worth of songs, so decided to form Into The Unknown. Moving on a couple of years, with 1 album and a mini album of covers released, and a second album in the can, and the lineup has been expanded to include a new guitarist and drummer, soon to be announced.
2. How would you describe your sound?
Its Classic rock, with a symphonic edge, and melodic vocals ….
3. What bands/artists would you say have influenced your style of music?
Every band member has different influences so the band sound has evolved into something that people say is recognisable as us. Ryan is into the classics like AC/DC and Guns N Roses, Rupert is currently listening to bands such as Nightwish, and Lucie has always been more into pop and musicals, although having worked with Ryan and Rupert is now a fan of Within Temptation and Halestorm.
4. Has the rise of YouTube & music streaming helped or hindered you as a band?
As we’ve been unable to tour previously, YouTube has been a great way to get heard for us, and a couple of the tracks from the first album “Out of The Shadows” have surprised us by getting a number of plays on YouTube. Music streaming has also helped us, as although we did get the CDs into all the UK’s HMV stores for example, most of the sales have been via streaming. It’s a nice feeling to see constants sales on the streaming platforms.
5. What do you enjoy doing when you’re not making music?
Rupert runs a commercial studio business so doesn’t get a lot of time to do non musical stuff, but when he gets chance he likes to do archery (he’s not really a psychopath!) Ryan likes to spend time in the gym, and Lucie loves doing her Kung Fu classes.
6. What are your future plans musically? Tours?
The new album is ready, “Breaking the Silence” so we are just planning that release at the moment for later in the year, and now that we have the expanded lineup, we will tour to support it. We are in rehearsals at the moment, so once the dates are finalised, we will add them to our website and the Facebook Page. We are also working on a new single which will be the first track with the new lineup, and that will be released soon, as an introduction to them, a track that probably wont end up on any album (yet).
