Cult Black Metal band The Deathtrip have scrawled their ghostly sigils on blood-contract with Svart Records (EU) and Profound Lore (North America) for their sophomore album Demon Solar Totem, the follow-up to 2014’s debut, Deep Drone Master.
Featuring the long-due return of Kvohst (Ex-Dødheimsgard/Code) on lyrics/vocals joining the cold, hypnotic riffs of Host (Thine), the primal drumming of Storm (Ex-My Dying Bride, Blasphemer) and introducing the bass playing of Thomas Eriksen (Mork), The Deathtrip offer tickets to primeval possession and open portals to other dimensions.
Demon Solar Totem captures the spirit of ancient Darkthrone, Thorns and Beherit imbued with old-English occultism and the chanting of sacred sound formulas. Otherworld Black Metal eeriness for a deep dive into spectral realms, Demon Solar Totem will be released on November the 15th 2019.
The frost creeps up and over as The Deathtrip grip with icy intent and horrifying bleakness. This is the sound of hell but not the fiery flame-fuelled one that we are more accustomed too. Instead it’s a cold place, one where the chill of the riffs and haunting vocals cut deep to the bone.
Bleak and horrid, The Deathtrip aren’t breaking the mold but that’s ok as Demon Solar Totem more then delivers on what it promises. From the moment the title track spreads its icy tendrils outwards to the moment Enter Spectral Realms breaks the mind apart with harsh riffing and even harsher vocals to the moment Awaiting A New Maker brings ferocity like no other.
This is black metal at its most chilling yet still creative enough to not become an afterthought. You can tell that The Deathtrip mean this. Every note, every beat, every riff, every gurgle and growl just solidifies that.
