Album Review: Plague Years – Circle Of Darkness (eOne)

Like an ice-pick to the face, Plague Years arrive with an electric surge of sudden pain. An unrelenting end of the world assault of the cataclysmic convergence of thrash and hardcore, with bits of blackened death and midtempo madness to spare, the Detroit master blasters are here to crash the crossover party.

Circle of Darkness, the band’s full-length debut, will be released on September 18th 2020 via eOne.

The anticipation of a fistful of metal to the face will make you downright giddy with excitement. Tense yourself as much as possible, Circle of Darkness will still knock you on your ass.

A whirlwind of blackened and thrashing noise that has no shame with crossing over into many other metal territories. The end result, a thrill ride of savagery that will make the eyes water, the stomach acids boil and the legs shake. If you like heaviness, if you like fast heaviness, if you like sharp heaviness and if you like purposeful heaviness then you’re going to really get along with Plague Years’ debut.

It doesn’t matter where you are, you’ll be compelled to start a furious bout of head-banging to the likes of Paradox of Death, the title track and Incantation. Or open a hardcore pit to the likes of the stomping Eternal Fire and meaty thrash groove of NRFTL.

Whatever Circle of Darkness calls you to do, you can be sure you’ll give your all. Exactly as Plague Years have done here.
