Album Review: Odradek Room – A Man Of Silt (Hypnotic Dirge Records)
Out on October 12th 2017, Ukrainian progressive doom/post-metal band Odradek Room will release their new album, A Man of Silt via Hypnotic Dirge Records.
Arising in the Void doesn’t give much away. The soft melody alongside atmospheric effects builds for nearly two minutes before Selfness reveals the epic sound that Odradek Room has.
Playing with the idea of a huge post-metal scope mixed with traditional metal riffs before it’s all blended together with a dynamic dressing. A Man Of Silt proudly delivers a listening experience that feels ancient. A style that feels of another time & place.
Odradek Room go for longer tracks that take you on a sonic journey. Be it be the crushing riffs, epic melodies or with nasty guttural vocals, this is an album that does not let you down.
Whereas Selfness gave a harder, more heavy sound, Texture of Reality instead goes for a softer, more guitar-melody driven effort. It’s all about the hauntingly memorable effects that work off the soaring vocals that can switch to pure nastiness in an instant. The flashes of increased tempo helps keep things on the forward path too seeing as it is nearly 9 minutes long.
Odradek Room do an impressive job of combining a harder sound that punches heavily with booming drum beats & rich riffs alongside a dark melodic vibe. The tracks flow nicely together & the tempo changes never feel out of place.
Nowhere is that better summed up then during the emotive Rain Trip. A sorrowful tune with softly sung female vocals.
An impressively dark & introspective listen closes out with two different tracks. Divide is a lengthy journey of sadness that builds into a thumping rhythm & harsher metal sound. It’s a track that touches upon all the elements heard so far throughout A Man Of Silt. Huge riffs, touching melody & just a dribble of nastiness to the beat. While Conditional Eternity, the final track goes out in a similar way to how the album begun.
A haunting melody with intriguing atmospheric effects. Whereas the intro went on for about 2 minutes, Conditional Eternity is double that so adds some fresher elements such as an echoing bass that adds a richer sounding edge.
