Album Review: Fuming Mouth – The Ringing Bell (Triple B Records)
New England death metal beast Fuming Mouth will release their much-anticipated new album ‘The Ringing Bell’ on July 24th on Triple B Records.

Kicking off in chuggy and thumping fashion, Cheat Death and Self-Exhumed take a beatdown approach but metallises things so significantly, it’s unrecognisable. Think Nails, but with a bit more groove and plenty of attitude. This is how you make an impression, and both tracks have cool sounding guitar solos.
It’s then time to get your two-step on with the raging intensity of Finally Fearless, which has this screaming guitar solo into a nasty breakdown transition that sounds awesome. Before A Blaze of Nihilism and After Oblivion slow things down in dangerous and feral fashion. Two of the album’s heaviest tracks, with even the vocals turned up an extra notch for even more hellacious intensity.
I can’t, in all good faith, tell you that this record has tons more to offer than just relentless savage noise, but I can assure you that Fuming Mouth’s focus does mean brutality comes in different forms. Take Hidden in the Moor, which has more harmonious guitars, but still sounds downright evil. Or how about the cacophony of guitar tones that make Vivid Revelations such a disconcertingly dark listen? This expanded metallised sound is what makes Fuming Mouth so special.
The latter part of the record doesn’t get any softer as Flourishing Flesh, the title track, and Barbarian Scourge deliver a range of heart-racing, head-pounding, and fist-flailing sounds. However, here you really will be able to pick out more variety that showcases more creativity than the first half of the record might have offered. In particular, the title track is noteworthy.
It all ends in ferocious fashion though, as Respect Mortality sees Fuming Mouth dig even deeper into the filth, pulling out one of the album’s ugliest sounding efforts. The meticulous tone, the squealing feedback, the guttural vocals, and crunch of the weighty drums makes sure attentions are still firmly focused on this band right to the closing moments.
A remarkable debut record that lives up to its heavy promises, while delivering a torrent of bleak darkness. Fuming Mouth have arrived.
