Single Slam: Scene Queen and Delilah Bon!
Today’s single slam features Scene Queen and Delilah Bon. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.
Scene Queen – Tracksuit
Scene Queen is channelling Y2K chaos on her latest song, ‘Tracksuit’. The song embraces the Queen’s signature Bimbocore sound, while also making a massive mark in the metal space. She’s raging and terrorising cheaters, a feeling too many people have experienced.
Scene Queen shares of the new track:
Tracksuit is what would happen if you combined my two favourite things: y2k fashion and terror. The song is meant to feel like a continuous train of thought from when you bust in the door of your home and see a tracksuit that isn’t yours (imagine thinking SCENE QUEEN wouldn’t notice a tracksuit that isn’t pink) to when I get arrested for murder. The message is simple: don’t cheat on SCENE QUEEN because she is crazy.
I’m loving this heavier pivot that is dominating Scene Queen’s current sound, not just showing off more range from the talented artist but allowing her style to come out in a different way. This track blends retro fashion and alternative intensity but has a fresh uplift courtesy of the guttural growls and punchier instrumental parts. It’s fun, and very in keeping, but not the catchiest song we’ve had from Scene Queen.
Delilah Bon – Time’s Up
“Brat punk” pioneer Delilah Bon returns with fire and rage on her new single ‘Time’s Up’, a call-out track demanding accountability for those in power who have abused their positions against those they were meant to protect. In direct response to the horrors surrounding ICE enforcement and immigration raids in the US, Bon recently made the difficult decision to cancel her US tour.
On the ignition that sparked the release Bon shared:
‘Time’s Up’ is a song I wrote in reaction to the Epstein files and the complete lack of justice for survivors. It’s about exposing the men who abuse their power and giving the victims a voice. As a society we are not angry enough and this song came from my rage, seeing how victims of sexual abuse were cast aside and not protected by the system.
No one can ever accuse Delilah Bon of holding back and this new track proves that that her fire and fury is only getting stronger. Partially because her platform is growing and more people are paying attention to her, but mainly because men keeping doing horrible things. Musically, this is a track with bite, delivered in her unmissable alternative/nu-metal/hip-hop/rap-infused way. Yet, it’s the lyrical content that stays with you. The day Delilah Bon has nothing to say will be a great day indeed, but for now, let’s appreciate the fact that she refuses to be quiet.
