Album Review: Final Coil – The World We Inherited 2025 – Remastered & Expanded (Self Released)

Incredibly, it has been nearly two years since progressive rock band, Final Coil, released their immense third full-length album, ‘The World We Inherited’, the concluding chapter of the Persistence trilogy. As well as now being available on vinyl (limited-edition splatter) the album will be re-released as a ‘Remastered and Expanded’ edition on December 5th, 2025.

Featuring updated artwork from Andy Pilkington (VeryMetalArt) and fully remastered audio from original producer Russ Russell (Dimmu Borgir, Napalm Death, Amorphis), this special release also includes: Two new songs that didn’t make the final cut of the album, newly finished for this release. Two demos of songs to give a glimpse into the band’s workflow, and a live set, mixed and mastered from the original multitrack desk recording, that highlights the band’s live energy.

There’s just something about that vinyl sound, isn’t there?

Final Coil give ‘The World We Inherited’ its last hurrah with the gigantic Remastered and Expanded version. Featuring the remastered original album and an additional eleven tracks, ensuring that nobody is left wanting, least of all those who will be hearing this album for the first time.

Is that you? Where the bloody hell have you been!? Final Coil have been on a tear for two years, stretching their legs and delivering potent progressive rock to the masses. So, now is the time to get onboard, especially as there is a trail of impressive Final Coil releases behind them now.

I reviewed The World We Inherited back in 2024, and rather than just repeat myself here, I thought I would briefly tell you what makes the difference here, after all, these are remastered tracks! If you want a more in-depth look at the tracks, go read the review here. Although I will summarise that the album is:

Arguably their most creative and powerful work to date, and one that showcases the brilliance of their genre-bending ways.

So, what’s the key thing that makes this remastering the only way to listen to this album now? Richness. Everything just sounds richer and more expressive. Considering the progressive depth the album has, how complex it can be, but also how subtle and melodious it can be, this richness really makes a difference. It feels fresh, and that means it’s going to have a whole new lease on life.

It deserves it.

So, what else do you get? How about seven live tracks from a performance at The Firebug in Leicester. Seven live tracks that captures both the hypnotic nature and dynamic energy of a Final Coil live show. The tracks sound great too, seeing as they have been mixed and mastered from the original multitrack desk recording. If you’ve never seen them perform live before, this is the next best thing.

Seven live tracks would be more than enough to warrant the ‘Expanded’ part of the title, but there’s more. First, two songs that didn’t make the final cut of the album and have been newly finished for this release. Evoking History is a heavy and fast one, Final Coil daringly groovy, albeit with creative twists. Self Reflection is moodier (the bass is particularly potent), grungy to some degree, has a 90s vibe, and delivers flareups of heaviness that sound great. I really dig the hell out of these two tracks.

Finally, capping off the experience is two demos of tracks that appear on the full album, Humanity and Stay with Me. Not quite necessary listening, but nice to have, nonetheless.

The quintessential Final Coil release, it’s as simple as that. Whatever the future holds for this band they can always look back at ‘The World We Inherited’ and know they released a record to be proud of. This Remastered and Expanded version just makes that point even clearer.
