Horror Short Review: The Photographer (2025)

From Yourself Productions comes The Photographer, a horror short directed/written/edited by Riel Barretto-Duval. It stars Amber Bennett as Daniella Bell, a young woman whose desire to be ‘more than a photographer’ results in her capturing something she will wish she hadn’t.

An effective horror short that builds tension nicely, creating a sense of unease to begin with, following a terse phone call conversation (excellent acting). Then, a sense of a calm, courtesy of nature and the sound of birds, before building the tension up as something sinister makes itself known.

It’s always impressive when a creator can successfully tell a story with a beginning, middle, and end in five minutes, and that is what Riel Barretto-Duval is able to do here. Keep an eye on them, there’s talent here, and while you’re at it, check out this short below.
