Album Review: Chain Wolf – Lamentations Turned Resentment (MotorPunk Records / Morning Star Heresy)

Los Angeles Thrash Metal outfit Chain Wolf will release their highly anticipated new album, ‘Lamentations Turned Resentment’, on October 10, 2025. The record will be available physically through MotorPunk Records and digitally via Morning Star Heresy.

A no-nonsense slice of thrashing intensity, Chain Wolf aren’t looking to change the world here, they’re just aiming to make it that little bit heavier. A task they easily accomplish thanks to roaring riffs, thundering drums, and screaming vocals, delivered with speed and ferocity.

Oath Broken is a killer start and tells us everything we need to know about Chain Wolf’s drive on this new album. They’re on fire, and there is no attempt to douse it with the punchy head banging techniques of The Old Ways. Nor is there any attempt to mess with the thrashy template that Human Kaiju displays. Thankfully Chain Wolf approach this kind of manic music with confidence and throw their all in making sure the listener comes away a little tender.

The frenzy continues with aplomb as Chain Wolf dig deeper to find even more heavy gold with the feral Mork Borg and Lamentations. Before …Turned Resentment shows off a little Slayer influence (of course) but really comes to life in the chorus, which is forceful and kind of catchy. Yes, you read that right, although that might just be because I have spent so many years listening to basic thrash metal that anything out of the ordinary perks the ears up.

Bollocks to that though, I say it’s Chain Wolf writing solid music.

Keeping it to the point, sharp and savage, the album features ten tight efforts, and with almost all the focus being on speed, it does fly by. Especially when a track like Third Eye pulverises, a track like Cursebreaker adds some blackened atmosphere to things, a track like Child Return Home turns back the clock in mind melting fashion, and a track like Revealing Light wraps things up as they begun, heavily.

It’s thrash and not much else, but damn it, Chain Wolf do it very well. It’s an album that will kick your ass and you’ll be so glad it did.
