Those Once Loyal Return With New Single – Dirt to Gold – Out 5th September
Hailing from Nottingham, UK, Those Once Loyal have been on quite the journey since last releasing music. One of the reasons due to a revolving door of bassists. Thankfully, their line-up is now solidified, and they’re looking to the future.
Since the release of their 2023 EP ‘Relentless Cycle’ they have played many shows in and around the Midlands area, spreading their name about, and playing higher profile shows in their hometown such as Nottingham Rock City, where they played with Atreyu in the main hall. As well as basement shows, with the likes of Heart of a Coward, Attila and Rxptrs. They’ve also played other venues in Nottingham with High on Fire, Cane Hill and Kill the Lights, landing a London date with the latter too. They also played the prestigious festival Bloodstock Open Air in 2023, creating carnage on the on the Jagermeister stage.
Now, they are gearing up to release their brand-new single, ‘Dirt to Gold’, the follow up to the ‘Glass Hands’ single.
The band describe it as follows:
‘Dirt to Gold’ was written in a time when Oscar (Guitar and Backing Vocals) started to feel a little lost about what he wanted to do, being content where he was but also not sure if that was the right thing to feel, which lead to the exploration of sonic styles in specific sections of the piece. The aggressive dynamics of the breakdown and verse sections show instability in personal choice, the clean simple yet refreshing chorus, signify clarity and being OK with not being sure what you want but knowing that is OK. This song was as an outpouring of a deeper personal struggle which led to the completion of the song Dirt To Gold, in its musical form.
Vocalist Matt Smith also had this to say about the lyrics:
‘Dirt to Gold’ is about the difficult choices we are faced with in our life. Sometimes we agonise about what might be the right decision for us and we follow a path which in hindsight isn’t always the best one. When we go through a hard time in our lives often from our own making it’s important to reflect on what led us there in the first place. It’s a song about self reflection and making difficult decisions to get to where we need to be.
“Dirt to Gold” will be available on all platforms on September 5th and will be accompanied by a lyric video. Pre-Save it on Spotify here.
