Single Slam: Sinsaenum, Faun, Believe in Nothing, DARKO, and Fit for a King!

Today’s single slam features Sinsaenum, Faun, Believe in Nothing, DARKO, and Fit for a King. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.

Sinsaenum – Last Goodbye

Extreme metal supergroup Sinsaenum offers a second taste of their upcoming studio album ‘In Devastation’, with the release of their new single, ‘Last Goodbye’.

This album marks the band’s first new material since the tragic passing of legendary drummer Joey Jordison (Slipknot, Murderdolls) in 2021. Both the singles and album serve as a cathartic tribute to Jordison and to guitarist and founder Frédéric Leclercq’s (Kreator, Ex-Dragonforce) late father, whose deaths profoundly shaped the emotional and creative direction of the project.

Leclercq explains:

I was devastated, hence the title of this album. But we knew we had to carry on. This record is our tribute to my father, to Joey, and to anyone who’s ever had to find strength in their darkest moments.

Sinsaenum, but not as we know them, sort of. Showcasing an evolved sound that expands as the track goes on, the group are showing off their more melodic side, albeit with layers of gloominess. You can feel the emotion in this one, evident not just with the clean singing, but the aggressive bursts of heaviness. It’s a track with weight.

Faun – Lady Isobel

Pagan folk band Faun have released a brand new single and music video for ‘Lady Isobel’, a delicate and deeply personal ballad. The track is taken from the band’s upcoming new album ‘Hex’, set for release on 5th September via Pagan Folk Records.

On the new single, vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Oliver Satyr comments:

‘Lady Isobel’ has its source in one of my poems, which I wrote about a dear friend of mine. The lute accompaniment was inspired by the guitar playing of, for example, Nick Drake and Bert Jansch. Together with great vocals, flute playing, synthesisers and rhythms of my band colleagues, ‘Lady Isobel’ has become a wonderfully floating ballad that I am very proud of.

A very pretty song that captures a story-telling mood to the point where it’s easy to envision a bard, a full tavern and a rapt audience. Faun’s music is very relaxing most of the time, and this track just so happens to have even deeper depths of serenity to enjoy. Check it out here.

Believe in Nothing – Boiling Stone

Continuing their dominating march forward, Believe in Nothing are back with another dark and nasty slice of filth. It’s ‘Boiling Stone’ and its lyrics touch upon horrors that day by day are starting to become more believable in the present timeline.

Caine Hemmingway (vocals/noise) explains:

Boiling Stone is a song about nuclear war. Focusing on the truly unimaginable horror, the inconceivable and cataclysmic effects on humans, and the earth we live in.

Crashing, smashing, and mashing, Believe in Nothing’s new single is a dark and wicked sounding track. Filled with unsettling atmosphere, aggressive intent, and brutish weight. Yet, it’s their measured approach that makes the most impact, showcasing a more developed musical palette. They’re a great band and tracks like this solidify that claim. Check it out here.

DARKO – Override!

Surrey progressive punks DARKO have shared their brand-new single ‘Override!’ alongside a wonderfully animated video. The track is the second to be taken from their upcoming new EP ‘Canvas’, set for release on 18th July via Lockjaw Records.

The EP serves as the final piece of the conceptual puzzle that ties all of the band’s recent releases together, relating to their Greyscale and Sparkle EP’s both lyrically and thematically.

Speaking on the new single, vocalist Tom West shares:

Growing up with rampant, normalised homophobia left Millennials with past behaviours to unpack and internalisations to unlearn. I remember thinking I was counter-culture and anti-authoritarian, yet still ‘ironically’ using homophobic slurs way past the point where I should have known better. It wasn’t OK back then, and it definitely isn’t OK now. Anyone within the punk rock scene who is not unequivocally supportive of the LGBTQI+ community needs to either sort their act out, or f**k off.

A brilliant blast of punchy and powerful punk rock that is DARKO through and through, but still feels so fresh and interesting. That it comes with such an important statement wrapped up in anthemic style, makes it all the better. Growth as a band and as a human being. Check it out here.

Fit for a King – Lonely God

Fit for a King recently announced their new album, ‘Lonely God’, with the latest single from it, ‘Begin the Sacrifice’, out now.

Says vocalist Ryan Kirby about the song’s subject matter:

Thematically, you can think of it as a person who’s ready to begin the sacrifice of himself for a greater cause, but there are a million things asking for his attention. It’s not necessarily religion. People are arguing about everything these days. So, it’s easy to end up believing in nothing because you feel overwhelmed.

Always brilliant, always delivering something fresh, and always filled with intensity, Fit for a King are back with an absolute rager, setting anticipation for this new album at a high point already. Frenetic instrumentation that has weight, modern melodic lulls that reach the soul, and vocals that alternate between soft and vulnerable, and epic and intense, the chorus is awesome.
