Interview: Talking Horror with Arctic Dreams (Written)
Arctic Dreams, the international sympho-industrial-black-death-metal band took some time to talk horror with us.

1. What’s some of your earliest memories surrounding horror films and at what age do you think you experienced your first one?
[Alex_Y]: It was “Nightmare on Elm Street.” I was about 8 years old and I couldn’t sleep.
[Gena]: As a kid when I was about five years old, I watched the movie Alien with my dad. I liked it very much, it is one of my favorite movies to this day.
[Mirko_Death]: I was 8 years old.And name of movie was (Leptirica),Serbian horror. It scared shit out of me.
[Roman]: I’m not a big fan of horror films. The earliest memory of a film that scared me a lot is from my childhood when I was 8 or something like that. It was the X-Files, a moment when a person turned into a werewolf. It was made so realistically, some kind of body-horror.
2. What effect do you think it had on you, either positive or negative?
[Alex_Y]: You know, it’s really hard for me to evaluate this… I think one of my relatives should do it.
[Gena]: It launched my interest in science fiction.
[Mirko_Death]: Both of them. It inflames a lot of artistic ideas in me.
[Roman]: I’m not sure it affected me at all. Maybe I’m not a fan of body horrors. I like horror movies only if they are dumb and funny, like Evil Dead TV Series.
3. Do you have a particular moment in horror, be it a specific film or even a scene, that defined your childhood?
[Alex_Y]: I don’t think so, all the same, except for the above movie, I watched mostly American blockbusters.
[Gena]: No, I guess not.
[Mirko_Death]: Not really.
[Roman]: Oh, I described it above.
4. What used to scare you?
[Alex_Y]: I was scared of my town where I was born. It’s so bad and depressing, it makes me want to shoot myself. I never go there.
[Gena]: Used to be monsters and maniacs, now watching the news.
[Mirko_Death]: Darkness scares me and what is in that darkness. As a kid i had a feeling that some big monster with big arms, and claws, sharp teeth is waiting for me to rip me apart.
[Roman]: I wouldn’t say that I have specific fears, but I don’t like snakes. I feel disgusted by them being around.
5. How did your early experiences blossom into a love of all things horror?
[Alex_Y]: It probably started with Cradle of Filth I was probably about 14 years old. Plus the atmosphere I was living in at the time.
[Gena]: I wouldn’t say I have a love for ALL things horrible.
[Mirko_Death]: I don’t remember.
[Roman]: I wouldn’t say that I feel love for all things horror. I fell in love with all things epic. I’m not a horror person, I’m more a fantasy and sci-fi person.
6. Do you have a particular era or style of horror that you deem the best? If so, which one, why, and what are some examples of the best of that era/style?
[Alex_Y]: I think it’s post apocalyptic movies. Plus I really like Stephen King and Jigsaw.
[Gena]: I like horror movies from different eras.
[Mirko_Death]: 80’s horror movies.
[Roman]: I doubt it.

7. How about genres – are you a slasher fan, paranormal lover, gorefest enjoyer, etc, or is a little bit of everything ok with you?
[Alex_Y]: Well, of all the above, paranormal is the closest.
[Gena]: There are great movies in all genres, but I probably like body horror the least.
[Mirko_Death]: More sci fi fan.
[Roman]: I like part-irony trash movies like Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
8. What’s the best horror film to watch alone and why?
[Alex_Y]: I’m thinking Jigsaw. Makes you think about the eternal.
[Gena]: Alien the first second movie. Romulus is pretty good, too.
[Mirko_Death]: Alien, Texas chainsaw massacre.
[Roman]: I watched the Evil Dead TV Series and enjoyed it. I don’t have much expertise in horror movies to recommend something else.

9. Likewise, what’s the best horror film to watch with a group (beers and popcorn included) and why?
[Alex_Y]: The above mentioned post apocalypse movie.
[Gena]: Any comic horror movie, Shaun of the Dead, Zombieland, Tremors.
[Mirko_Death]: Definitely Texas massacre. Thrash metal band Laaz Rockit played for the movie.
[Roman]: Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
10. What is an overrated film or franchise? Please explain.
[Alex_Y]: Jigsaw again. The latter parts of the movie are not at all what they were in the beginning.
[Gena]: If a movie or franchise has popularity and big profits, then they’re doing everything right.
[Mirko_Death]: Evil Dead. Good idea ,but low budget and that movie sucks.
[Roman]: I don’t know.

11. What is a modern horror film (the last ten years) that you just loved and why?
[Alex_Y]: The most recent Eternaut is super! I’d also like to single out To The Lake.
[Gena]: Alien Romulus. It has its flaws but the franchise has taken a turn in the right direction, looking forward to the sequel.
[Mirko_Death]: Alien. Because xenomorph is ugly ,slimy scary bug.
[Roman]: I don’t know.
12. What scares you now?
[Alex_Y]: To remain disabled.
[Gena]: View the news or bank account balance. These are two of the scariest horror movies of our time.
[Mirko_Death]: Stupid people.
[Roman]: News.
