Interview: Spit and Fire – Talking with Mercedes Lander (Drums) of Kittie (Video/Audio)
Canadian heavy music pioneers Kittie marked a quarter-century milestone with the release of ‘Spit XXV’, a four-track EP celebrating the 25th anniversary of their gold-certified debut album. The collection features freshly re-recorded versions of ‘Brackish XXV’, ‘Charlotte XXV’, ‘Do You Think I’m A Whore XXV’ and the title track ‘Spit XXV’, all produced, once again, by Garth Richardson who helmed the original 1999 sessions at EMAC Studios.
There’s nothing to complain about here, and these versions don’t replace the originals, so if you prefer them, have at it. However, for the rest of us, it’s a chance to drown in nostalgia and appreciate just how far this band has come. All hail Kittie.

This EP comes as Kittie are enjoying a revival, of sorts, having released their album ‘Fire’ in June 2024, their first new album since 2011’s I’ve Failed You.
Kittie aren’t trying to re-capture the fire of old, rather, they’re starting a brand-new one, and thanks to some really killer tracks, it promises to be one hell of an inferno.

This revival, and the ride the band have been on since, is just one part of this interview, where we break Kittie down with drummer and founding member, Mercedes Lander. We look back at who Kittie was, look at who Kittie became, but we also look to the future too, looking at who Kittie is now, and so much more.
