Interview: Getting to Know Naked Sunday

A band that strives on being unique and a band that refuses to be pigeon-holed, in this interview we get to know Naked Sunday a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Originally I was a photographer when the band had a different line up without a bassist, audience members kept saying the band needed a bass player, so the band turned round to me and said fancy learning bass and that’s how I ended up being the bass player for naked sunday, literally learning bass on the road, from route notes to now more technical and flowing bass lines.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

We are unique, our variety changes, we are not afraid to experiment with different influences, from rock, indie, blue glam etc so our style is Naked Sunday we like to be creative and not to be pigeon holed, there is a song to suit all audiences.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We released a new album in September called library of medication and have received great reviews and want to push that further, we are looking to do some new music videos , and looking for new venues to explore ,whilst working on new material and a new song called Let Them where myself Laura sings and hands the bass over to Martin, we like to keep things changing and adapting or set.

4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

The release of our new album Library of Medication and a new single Let Them.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

Lots of hard work into the music scene with gigging, audience participation and having our supporters contributing to the song Library of medication, telling , speaking about why music matters to them.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

Music is amazing for mental health, to have connections with people through music , singing the same song or having a moment together through music and making memories. Our song unbreakable really resinates with a lot of people and knowing a song we have written connects so many people together is beautiful, music is away to express your feelings and it really helps to get it out of your head and into words or into notes, you really can escape and feel a moment through music.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

Adapting all the time can be challenging and a learning curve, it’s not just about live gigs anymore, you have to work hard in this industry and can easily get left behind. We have have had to adapt and be more heavy on social media, including videos on Tiktoc, Instagram etc.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

This is something we have learnt to post short and snappy videos to get more followers etc and listens on Spotify, using #tags etc and you are always learning new things, we try to post videos few times a week from band introductions, rehearsal footage or just fun silly videos. Still learning along the way but online presence is very important these days.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

We like to have fun with videos and take it in turns to post different ones, or posting videos to get a debate going like how do you make a brew milk in first or after, we like to have some fun with it to.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

For listeners to help support streams on Spotify etc really do help, or sharing band posts or videos on Tiktok and attending live shows. We really value our supporters and like to make them feel involved to.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

We all like to go walking, rock-climbing, being extras in films, aerial hoop and silks and social meet for band beers and support live music.

12. Where can people find you?

Spotify | TikTok | Facebook | Instagram
