Interview: Catching Up with Venus Fly Trap

It has been a little while since we checked in with eclectic cult rock and roll band, Venus Fly Trap. In this interview, we catch up with them and find out what they’ve been up to since we last spoke.

1. Hello! Welcome back. It’s been a little while, so first things first, how are you and have there been any significant changes since we last spoke?

Been trying, keeping afloat with my shop SPIRAL ARCHIVE RECORDS it has been challenging, ive been doing this for over 25 years in different locations in Northampton-UK.Alongside my regular dj nights, promoting gigs, playing, putting together a radio show and online music magazine called PULSE.Kinda the same but different more competition online and physically same cake but more bites being taken of it.

2. So, what’s new? What’s keeping you busy this time around? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

Putting together the new VENUS FLY TRAP release called DEJA VU 1986-2026 a re-collection plus rarities due to be out in july 2026…on GLASS MODERN to coincide with VFTs 40th also in july…we are planning dates alongside a special date in our hometown Northampton.

That will include as many x members as we can get together some performing thats going to happen on the 12th September this year it will include an aftershow party.

3. Describe what fans/listeners can expect.

The compilation will incude our singles, some rare tracks that have only appeared on compilations and remixes,a career overview for both the new listener and people who know our material already.

4. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you to see it come to fruition?

Its a milestone that needs to be acknowledged, alpha and omega of a particular part of our career,to stop take stock, look back and then think about the future. Its a reflective time thinking about all the events and people we have met on the way to reach this point in time, whats next?

5. Sum up what this latest development says about you and where you find yourself at this moment in time?

There are different stages in any project were at the autumn part of its span, the time for going further is running out,or how long can you continue doing something without it going stale, when i feel it has run its course i will move on to something else.

5. Has the time since we last spoke been a mostly positive period and has there been any one thing that stands out as being good?

The music scene in my hometown is very vibrant plenty of entertainment going on theres always something new to discover that keeps me interested.

6. How about something that has challenged you since we last spoke? Has there been any particular thing that tested you, and if so, how did you overcome it?

Well as mentioned earlier trying to survive as a self employed person has been a challenge but these challenges make you more resourceful and able to adapt.Evolve or die…

What is a realistic goal you’d like to achieve over the next 12 months?

Put this album out alongside some other releases and be in a better financial situation at the end of the year.
