Horror Short Review: Skelf (2023)

From Sean Langdon (writer, director, producer, editor) comes the Christmas horror short, Skelf, which imagines an elf doll as something truly wicked.

Which, if we’re being honest, isn’t as interesting as it once was, thanks to an abundance of similar style horror shorts that have been released over the years. Thankfully, Skelf stands out thanks to the more interesting concept around the actual elf doll and how genuinely dangerous it is.

It’s an ugly looking thing that few will bear to look at but look you should. Look away for even a millisecond, you’ll regret it. For two sisters, already facing a more miserable Christmas having lost their mother, it’s going to be the fight of their lives to survive this thing.

I thought this was great and really got into the battle with this monstrous thing. Where did it come from? How is it so powerful? Why does it kill? Who knows, but it is here and effectively frightening.
