Horror Short Review: Deadline (2026)

Written & directed by Iben, Felix & Mathilde, Deadline is a slow burn short that cleverly builds tension, paying it off with the staple of horror, the jump scare. One that will certainly get a reaction, even if that reaction is just an eye roll.

The story is super simple, focusing on a late-night study session that turns sinister. A young girl, faced with a deadline but clearly exhausted, starts to experience strange events and the overpowering feeling that someone, or something, is watching her.

It’s an amateur film, but that’s not a knock as the short is good and those involved have talent. Especially for creating atmosphere and tension. It could be a little tighter, but I found myself invested in the experience, looking at the shadows and wondering what the strange noises mean. Alas, the final moment of the short does disappoint. Each to their own, but the jump scare is lazy and cheap.
