Getting to Know Shellshock Lullaby (Interview – Written)

Pop punk with a twist, Shellshock Lullaby recently released their new single ‘Songs in the Movies’ and are gearing up to return to the stage after several years away. In this interview, we get to know them a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Hey, thanks for having us! We’re Shellshock Lullaby, a pop punk band from Butte, Montana. The band started back in 2011 and has gone through a few lineup changes over the years. We’re now made up of Russ Nelson, AJ Puckett, Andrea Holland, Nate Jaap, and Adrian Sebastian. Most of us started playing music as teenagers, and it just grew from there—playing in basements, garages, and eventually putting together our own band.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

We call it pop punk with a twist—imagine that raw 90s grunge influence mixed with a modern rock edge. It’s honest, energetic, sometimes a little emo, but always a good time.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

Right now, we’re rehearsing with the new lineup and getting ready to get back on stage after a long break. We just released our latest single, “Songs in the Movies,” and we’re writing new material. It’s been a while since we played live—since 2021 actually—so we’re super excited to hit the stage again.

4. What is it about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

Definitely getting back to live shows. We’ve missed that connection with the crowd, the energy, and just the whole experience of performing. Also, working with the new lineup has brought a fresh perspective and vibe to the band.

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

It’s been a long road—lots of lineup changes, rehearsals, and writing sessions. But every time we finish a song or even just jam together, it feels like a win. Releasing “Songs in the Movies” was a huge milestone for us after all the changes. It means a lot to finally share that with everyone.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

It’s honestly one of the best outlets out there. Writing songs helps us process life’s ups and downs, and sharing that with others creates this sense of connection. Even just rehearsing with the band gives us a sense of purpose and community that keeps us going.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

The music industry can be tough—there’s a lot of uncertainty, scams, and so much competition. It’s also hard to navigate all the changes in technology and social media. We’ve learned to focus on what we can control: writing good songs, rehearsing, and connecting with people who genuinely support us.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

It’s definitely a lot to juggle. We try to keep things authentic—sharing what’s happening with the band, posting our music, and just being ourselves. We know it’s part of the job now, so we make sure we stay active on platforms like Instagram, Spotify, and YouTube.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

We focus on the positives—like seeing people connect with our music or coming to our shows. Even one new fan or someone saying they love a song makes it worthwhile. We try not to get too caught up in numbers and just remember why we started doing this in the first place.

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

Stream our music, share it with friends, come to our shows, and follow us on social media. Every like, share, and stream really helps us keep going. And let us know what you think—hearing from fans is the best part!

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

We’re all pretty laid-back. Some of us like to hike or camp—Montana has plenty of great spots for that. Others just like hanging out, watching movies, or hitting up local shows to support other bands.

12. Where can people find you?

You can find our music on all streaming platforms—Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube. We’ll have merch available when we get back on the road. Until then, come say hi on Instagram or Facebook!
