Getting to Know Lunison (Interview – Written)

Power pop trio, Lunison have just finished the recording of their first full length album, ‘Fakepink’ and it will be released on Friday, August 8th. In this interview, we get to know them a bit better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Lunison, Philly’s own power-pop trio, are on a mission to create the catchiest and most memorable music possible—the kind that soars through your ears and into your head to make this life a better experience. Matt Vantine’s lyrics reflect his coming to terms with life and his ever-changing relationship with the crazy world around and within him. Lunacy + Unison = Lunison.

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

Firstly, we are focused on songs that will reel listeners in. There’s much music and other forms of other entertainment competing for people’s attention these days, so we make sure that our songs are catchy, well played, and sung from the heart. If it comes from the heart, it’ll go to the heart. Our influences are The Beatles, Steely Dan, Spoon, Geese, Blur, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Prince and Bowie.

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We just finished the recording of our first full length album! It’s called “Fakepink” and will be released on Friday, August 8th. That night, we will play our album release show at Milkboy Philadelphia with Pep Rally and Nick Lombardo & The Decent OK.

4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

Because of the internet, people all over the world are able to access our music, music videos, interviews, and social media in seconds!

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

The work never stops! Our next single, “Susciety Gurl” drops on Friday, July 27th. Then comes our album, “Fakepink” on August 8th. Right now we are perfecting our live set, promoting our current single, “Shelly’s Room” and writing the next album.

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

On a night when there’s a good turnout and we are locked in on stage, the feeling of bliss that occurs in our brains is unparalleled by anything else known to man.

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

Finding the money to record, promote, travel, buy new equipment, etc can be difficult to find.

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

Matt Vantine – lead singer, songwriter and guitarist – is our acting manager. He handles all of the online promotion, marketing, outreach, event coordination, posting, etc. His dream is to someday find a manager that believes in us the way that Brain Epstein believed in The Beatles so that he can once again pick up his guitar and get lost in the music without getting concerned with the business aspect of things.

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

Honestly, it’s a job. However, being onstage and playing the songs that we worked so hard to make is the best feeling in the world. Everything else is work, and we’re OK with that!

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

Sharing our music with friends and family would go a long way. Word of mouth is still the most effective and lasting form of promotion because it is often taken more seriously than a passing instagram or facebook ad. I would also ask that they come to our shows to let us know that they care and are enjoying our music. Local bands live and die by the amount of support that they receive.

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

Exercise, reading, hiking (we live in a part of Pennsylvania with a lot of different trails), drinking coffee, spending time with our wives, and eating good food.

12. Where can people find you?

Website | Instagram | Spotify | YouTube

…to name a few. But we made sure that our band name was unique and only ours! Pop “Lunison” into your search engine of choice and come see us!
