Funeral Fest 2024: A Weekend of Heavy Metal, Punk and Rock!

The days are getting longer, the weather is improving (as much as it can in the UK), and festival season is upon us. Praise be to the rock and metal gods. One such festival taking place in 2024 is Funeral Fest, an annual punk, rock and metal festival in Barrow in Furness.

Taking place on Friday the 28th of June and Saturday the 29th of June, Funeral Fest prides itself on showcasing the best of the UK underground with a great focus on the more extreme side of metal (death metal, grindcore, doom metal, etc) and the heavier side of punk and rock over 2 days at the Soccer Bar in Barrow in Furness.

It started life nearly a decade ago, and since then, the festival has grown significantly from its local roots introducing world level headliners such as Discharge, Raging Speedhorn, Abaddon (ex-Drummer of Venom), Skelethal and Conjurer alongside rising bands like Seprevation, Devastator, etc.

This year’s event continues this trajectory with a smorgasbord of exceptionally talented acts (22 in total), topped by 4 very different but equally strong headliners. Friday night is headed by North Eastern NWOBHM legends Avenger and British industrial/nu-metal icons Kill II This, while Saturday features rare UK performances by US doom metal act Morne and Singaporean grindcore icons Wormrot.

Joining Avenger and Kill II This on the Friday are London thrashers Inhuman Nature, Barrovian death metallers Repulsive Vision, Bristolian black metal from Blasfeme, Newcastle based sleaze rockers Wild Thorn, Yeovil based tech death from Unburier, Nottingham grunge punks Unified Roots, Scouse death metallers Carnal Rot and Welsh grindcore act Emissaries of Syn.

Completing Saturday’s event alongside Morne and Wormrot are Mancunian crust punks Extinction of Mankind, International death metal Supergroup DeathCollector (featuring Andy Whale of Bolt Thrower). Bristolian death doom from Moon Reaper, South Coast metallic hardcore from Harrowed, Welsh atmospheric black metal from Defod, D beat punk from Retsu, Scouse hard rockers Archaea and Barrovian rising thrashers Sharpshooter.

It’s one hell of a line-up, but that’s not all.

Each night will also feature a classic metal post headliner aftershow. Friday will be closed by ex-Angel Witch bassist Kev Riddles and his new band Baphomet, performing songs from the iconic 1980 self-titled opus. Closing the Saturday will be Cumbria’s premier tribute to Lemmy and co, Motorbeard.

Sounds pretty damn good, right? Well, day tickets, weekend tickets and limited camping spaces are all available right now. Book your tickets here, and while tickets will also be available on the door, stocks won’t last.
