EP Review: To Obey A Tyrant – Frigore Inferni (Seek and Strike)
On 21st February 2025, deathcore heavyweights To Obey a Tyrant return with their new EP, ‘Frigore Inferni’, released via Seek and Strike.

Refining their sound and pushing the boundaries of deathcore, To Obey a Tyrant are back with an absolute beast of a record. Evolving, finding new depths to sink to, but also finding new heights to soar to. It’s one hell of a journey, and it hits a very early apex with I, Apollyon. Where they show off a darker, more vitriolic intensity, while having bucketloads of drama thanks to big, symphonic infusions.
It’s a huge opening track, especially as it is so blackened, but To Obey a Tyrant are on a bit of tear here. Following that monstrosity up with the gothic splendour of Obsidian Sol. This is up there as one of their ‘grandest’ sounding tracks, and even though it has melodic drops, it still proves to be unrelenting as far as deathcore heaviness goes. In fact, it’s as vicious as ever.
That same antagonistic intent is prevalent in Dawnbreaker and the title track too. With the former’s speed taking on a garish thrashy vibe in places, and the latter’s elaborate melody sounding more epic than anything heard so far. It really is incredible to hear what this band has become, and how much effort they’ve put into delivering the best of the best with this EP.
It’s such an enlightening listening experience that it’s kind of sad that it’s only six tracks long. Even if each is fulfilling, with tons of replay value. To Obey a Tyrant hitting just as hard with Prince Ov Death (just in case you weren’t clear about the blackened tone) and entering chaos mode with the crushing Winter’s Rite.
