EP Review: Red Method – As In Life (Depraved Records)

Red Method are back with their brand-new EP, ‘As in Life’, which is set for release on July 17th, via Depraved Records. An EP that explores unfiltered mental suffering, journeying through a barren landscape of dark themes including misanthropy, solipsism, angst, grief, disaffection, psychosis, and rejection.

A rebirth, of sorts, Red Method are not quite the same band they were a few years ago when they announced their second album, ‘Vol 1- As in Life’ in November 2024. Forced to adapt, they have regrouped and come out the other side of some serious trials, stronger than ever. Their vision has never seemed clearer, and while their evolution might have been initially forced, they have taken control of it. Delivering a six-track EP that showcases where Red Method have come from and where they are going.

Red Method’s future has never looked, or sounded, brighter. Something made abundantly clear with the nu-twisted, groove-infused, and aggressive sound of Counting Corpses. One of many showcases of furiously feral heaviness, alongside the likes of Dispose of Me (chaotic) and Detonate (volatile), that also speaks candidly about the darker corners of our psyches.

Back when they announced that second album, they also dropped a track called All for One, None for All, and that track also appears here. The song is one of the more creatively impressive tracks from an emotion-evoking melodic and alternative point of view. It also happens to feature Jayant Bhadula of Bloodywood, and that’s very cool.

Though there may be no better track to showcase the band’s evolution then Becoming the Sickness. A track that combines the old and the new. Delivering their core heavy intensity, melodic passion, and ability to groove, while kicking a ton of ass.

Wrapping things up is The Revolting Self, a short closing piece that can best be summed up as cinematic, but in dark and haunting fashion.

Overall, the EP is a strong continuation of ‘For the Sick’, sounding fresh and modern, but not to the point where Red Method’s identity has been lost. This feels important.
