EP Review: Mercers – The Liminal Tapes (Self Released)

Brit post-hardcore unit Mercers will release their debut EP, The Liminal Tapes, on July 17th, 2026.

In a short amount of time, Mercers have made an impression and now with this debut EP, they look to solidify their growing reputation and show new listeners just why they are worth paying attention too.

Showcasing a contemporary post-hardcore sound with nods to the past, Mercers do a great job of showing off their range. From the moment Cleanse Repeat explodes out of the blocks, to the moment January Zen experiments with alternative melodies and sharp heavy jabs, it’s an EP that entrances. Especially as in between these two bangers, we have New Stockholm and A Satire for the World.

The former, featuring dreamy vocals and potent instrumentals that erupt in anthemic fashion, showing off two sides to the band. The latter, proving to be a bit more chaotic and a bit more intense, while still having experimental post-hardcore ideas. I’m not sure the vocal yelps that crop up throughout quite work for me though.

A minor complaint in the grand scheme of things as the EP is solid, beginning to end, and a surefire head turner.

Mercers – The Liminal Tapes Track Listing:

1. Cleanse Repeat
2. New Stockholm
3. A Satire for the World
4. January Zen
