Album Review: Temnein – Tales: Of Humanity and Greed (Bloodblast)

Formed in France in 2009, Temnein are a melodic death metal band. They have previously released two albums: 404 B.C. in early 2014 through Mighty Music and White Stained Inferno in October 2017 through Massacre Records.

Their third album Tales: Of Humanity and Greed will be self-released by the band on 22nd May 2020 with an exclusive worldwide digital distribution by Blood Blast, a new service powered by Nuclear Blast and Believe Music.

The echo of guitars, ringing out but quite melodious, leads to a ruthless and dark blow of death metal. As intros go, The Storyteller is very effective and leads into The Blind and the Gre seamlessly. The tempo hots up and Temnein truly erupt for a refined assault of manic metal.

That track and many that follow have layers though, it’s polished and focused fury. Plenty to sink your teeth into and you’ll want too when you have such stylish offerings as The Knotted Bag and I Am Davy Jones. The pair’s melodic metal weight really being thrown about to great avail.

With plenty more to offer, Temnein have sunk into a comfortable rhythm that makes their brand of extreme metal all the more palatable. Rise of the Sontarans delivering a terse and aggressive head-banger, A Few Drops of Blood wallowing in murky bleakness and City of Gold pursing the goal of breaking down any resistance to good effect.

Delving deeper into the depths, there’s some extra growl to Dirge for Termina. Not just in the exceptionally guttural vocals but in the guitars and as always complimented by a smashing drum beat. Something that really stands out in the slower-tempo of Yuki Onna and the immense finale of Scums of Hamelin.

At nearly double the length of any other track on the album, Temnein use that time well. An extensive showcase of their melodic death metal abilities, as malicious as it is attractive to the ears.
