Album Review: Nighnacht – Limb Service (Morbid and Miserable Records / Pagan Fury Records)

Released by Morbid and Miserable Records in conjunction with Pagan Fury Records, ‘Limb Service’ is the brand-new, and fourth release by the chaotic black/death/thrash metal band, Nighnacht. Out on January 9th, 2026.

There’s something quite obscene about this album and not just because the combination of black, death and thrash-infused noise is ugly and harsh to the ears. No, the obscenity comes from the downright gleeful way that Nighnacht deliver things. Manically charged in places, chaotic and crushing, intense and dark, but also quite odd. A lot of which lies at the feet of the attention-grabbing vocals, easily the most polarising aspect of the record.

It’s the vocals that really gives Limb Service its unique factor, even if there’s plenty of enjoyment to be found in the extreme blasts of guitars and drums too.

I found myself more and more interested by what Nighnacht were doing here as the album went on and my mind acclimatised to the weird nuances of their sound and how their version of extreme comes from different heavy places. You’ll feel the sharp and cold sting of black metal in the guitars, the brutality of death metal in the drums, and the thrash in the more elaborate instrumental interplay. Yet, there is more. With some of the bleaker tones having a doom tinge, there being some classic heavy metal moments, and there being an undeniable experimental vein running through the entire record.

All this, across ten efforts wrapped up in about twenty minutes. Which is very cool as this is music you don’t want to overstay its welcome. Not when the vocals sound like a chorus of twisted entities. It certainly isn’t going to be for everyone, but it has the personality and vigour to win over plenty, regardless.
