Album Review: Goblinsmoker – The King’s Eternal Throne (APF Records)
The 5-year wait for the final part of the Toad King trilogy is over. Goblinsmoker’s ‘The King’s Eternal Throne’ is out on 25th July 2025 via APF Records.
This record brings to conclusion the Toad King trilogy revealing the fate of the King, which was sealed back when he first encountered the Goblin Forest. Picking up where the last instalment left off following the slaying of the ruling toad class, the world is now covered in darkness, ruled over by the Toad King and his goblin masses.

Darker and more horror-infused than ever, the story that Goblinsmoker has been telling over this immense trilogy reaches its epic conclusion here and it’s fair to say that the horrors of real life are having some effect on the music that the band create. Years of experience, developing and growing as artists, and living life, it’s no surprise that Goblinsmoker would lean into darker territories here, especially as the story conclusion isn’t a happy one.
What it is though, is potent. Featuring three gargantuan efforts covered in thick layers of doom, delivering blackened lows, and intense metal highs. It might sound like a short experience, but each track takes its toll on the mind, especially as immersion is guaranteed. Those who have been on the ride up to this point will delight in returning to the fantastical world of the Toad King, but even those new to the experience can find value in this kind of storytelling.
Especially as it is still a musical experience first and Goblinsmoker are on form here. Delivering a cacophony of heavy, grim, and soul sucking noise. From the weight that bears down on the mind via the monolithic riffs and demonic vocals of Shamanic Rites. To the twisted wickedness and garish intensity that Burn Him offers up. Whereas the darkness that emanates from the title track comes with powerful atmosphere and unforgettable heavy intensity. Each is layered with an eye-watering amount of detail, changing up tempos, varying the riffs, and making sure the listener never gets too comfortable.
It is a challenging listen, but not one that exhausts the senses thanks to the tight focus that Goblinsmoker has. It’s three tracks, complimented by a fourth that is a special dungeon synth rework of Toad King. A welcome bonus that means the record ends in a more mellow, but unusual sounding way. Though it’s hardly necessary as the three tracks that make up the story are more than satisfying and Goblinsmoker’s accomplishment here is so impressive. The end has arrived, covered in a smoky haze, and with indisputable wicked intent. Can you handle it?
