Album Review: Funeral Vomit – Upheaval of Necromancy (Xtreem Music)
Colombia’s Funeral Vomit are back with their brand-new album, ‘Upheaval of Necromancy’. Due out on December 19th, via Xtreem Music.

You always know it’s almost Christmas when the vilest of death metal emerges out of the darkness to ensure that it won’t be a holly, jolly time this year around the dinner table. Unless your family happens to love themselves some horrible sounding noise.
Funeral Vomit’s new album isn’t just sickeningly ugly, violently heavy, and abjectly coarse, it’s refined. This is a surprisingly palatable release, albeit one that is still forcefully jammed down the throat. It’s the extreme metal way, after all.
Do you like riffs that are sharp enough to slice through flesh and bone? Drums that sound like they’re being played with bones on taut human skin?? How about vocals that gurgle with all the charm of a blocked up drain? The kind that is filled with congealed blood, pus, and other grim liquids? Because that is what Funeral Vomit have to offer, and that it comes with a blackened edge just makes it all the more horrible.
Yet, and I keep coming back to this, it’s a really refined listen. Where it is clear Funeral Vomit wanted to capture the spirit, energy, and tone of death metal, but felt capable and confident to smooth out some of the rougher patches. The kind that most of us expect from extreme music that comes from the Colombian underground.
If that wasn’t enough to help you keep your lunch from coming back up, Funeral Vomit have an ear for flair too and show this off in exciting ways throughout the album. Across the ten tracks (intro, outro and intermission too), they proudly showcase an ear for the garish and in doing so, stake a claim to be one of the most exciting South American extreme metal bands at the moment.
Fuck it. Put it on the record player this Christmas instead of the usual tripe that gets played. Maybe your family will love it too.
