Album Review: Divulsive – Spawned in Viscera (Comatose Music)
‘Spawned in Viscera’ is the debut album from brutal death metal band Divulsive. Out July 24th, 2026, via Comatose Music.

Don’t you just know you’re in for a good time when you see names like Vomiting Homeless Excrement and Obsessive Anal Defilement? Tracks that unashamedly tell you what kind of band is coming up with titles like that. Let’s be honest, anyone who calls their album ‘Spawned in Viscera’ is unlikely to skanking.
So, to the surprise of literally no-one, what we have is death metal, the brutal kind. Where sense and reason are lost in a gory and violent maelstrom created by monstrous creatures who seemingly crawled straight out of hell to release this record. It’s an ugly listen, raw and wriggling, but if you have an ear for the extreme, you will find things to enjoy.
Such as the relentless, unyielding pace of it all. How the vocals sound like a blocked-up drain being plunged. Or how, here and there, we get some semblance of rhythm and some sort of structure. It’s rare but your ears will pick up on these moments.
It takes talent to turn in one of the year’s most grim sounding records.
I like extreme metal, but if I’m being honest, this is nigh unlistenable at times, and I can’t say I love that. Especially as the guitars melt into each other and the drum snare is constant. The embodiment of what people who don’t like metal love to say, which is “it’s just noise”.
This is just noise and by the end, your mind will likely have been turned to mush by it. Sure, it challenges, but this is one challenge that I, and many others I suspect, will not be repeating anytime soon.
