Album Review: dead7 – LOVE WHAT YOU CAN WHILE YOU GOT SOMETHING LEFT TO LOVE (SharpTone Records)

dead7 shape sound and feeling into an atmosphere where anything could happen at any moment. They will release their debut album ‘LOVE WHAT YOU CAN WHILE YOU STILL GOT SOMETHING LEFT TO LOVE’ on July 11th, 2025, via SharpTone Records.

This is a difficult album for me to talk about, but not because I found it complex or ground-breaking in anyway. Quite the opposite, in fact, I found it to be quite formulaic as far as modern metal / metalcore goes and found myself frustrated throughout. Yet, there were also so many times when I found myself undeniably interested in what I was hearing. I also found myself. really listening, because dead7 are no slouches. Sure, it’s not got much originality about it, but damn, do I like it.

I really like it in fact, especially when they get heavy, which they often do, or deliver a kick-ass anthemic chorus, which they often do.

Opening with Blue, we get the first taste of the album’s polarising aspects as this track’s effects are egregious and the melodies are a bit blard, but damn it, it goes really hard in places and I love that. That intensity is even more prominent on the manic Hole, one of the album’s early anthems. Even if I can’t help but wish they’d stop using effects on the vocals.

Then there is Blood and Nuclear, two tracks that evoke very different feelings in me. The former is fine, unremarkable metalcore, but the latter is so much fun. Anthemic fun with a chorus that’ demands movement.

Here’s the thing, the important thing, this is just my opinion and I think it’s an opinion coloured by hearing a lot of modern metalcore, especially high standard stuff, which this is too. It’s just not got the same appeal as it might have to someone not as familiar with the sound and style. Those people, of which there will be loads, will get a ton of mileage out of tracks like Enemy, Teeth, and Tattoo. Whereas I liked each, I just didn’t love them. Still, I really admire the varied tones.

Did I miss one? You’re damn right I did and all so it could get its own section.

It’s Please, and its my favourite track on the album. One I can rightfully say I love, and all because it has an alternative pop-rock sound and a chorus that is such a singalong. Utterly addictive stuff!

Flooding is pretty cool too, and all because it sits on the heavier side of things. The much heavier side and it give dead7 a wild edge. Whereas Dopesick is very melodramatic, but has powerful lyrics and off-kilter melody. It’s not quite the end I wanted but I can see this one connecting.

A lot of people are going to love this record, and while I didn’t, I can honestly say it’s worth hearing because it has so much to offer. Maybe, you’ll love it!
