Album Review: Blood Offer – All That Dies…Is Forsaken (Iron Fortress Records)

Italian death metal band, Blood Offer, will release their debut full-length album ‘All That Dies… Is Forsaken’ on Friday 5 September through Iron Fortress Records on digital, CD and cassette formats.

It doesn’t get more old-school death metal then this, which is testament to Blood Offer’s sound and style. After all, it’s not easy to make me feel like I’m hearing something from a much earlier era, but with modern flair that makes it a more listenable experience overall.

What we have here is ten tracks of meaty and mean sounding death metal. Filled with scorching riffs, bloodying hooks, scathing vocals, and rambunctious drumming. Oh, and did I mention soloing liable to rend the soul from the body? Cause Blood Offer have that too. It really is as straight-forwardly old-school as any fan of death metal would expect (and in many cases, hope for), but that isn’t meant in a negative way.

Look, this style of metal will never die, and regardless of the lack of innovation and finesse that comes with it, a band that delivers a hefty slab of heavy and savage sounding noise is always welcome. Especially when it comes from one as strong as Blood Offer, who embody the intensity, but also mania and the blood-curdling horror. After all, we don’t call it death metal for any old reason.

Speaking of horror, the opening track that is Dead Slut is a great example of the gory and guttural violence that the album has to offer. Setting the bar high for brutality but balanced by tempo shifts that really encourage bouts of head banging. Elsewhere there is the likes of Consumed By Brutality that definitely has a touch of blackness to it and Saviour Demise, which mixes methodical beastliness with bursts of ferocity, and also has this mid-point injection of sinister effects that sound ripped from a classic slasher horror film.

Then there is Morto e Sepolto and its demonic vocals, a touch of guitar melody with the intermission-style track, The Angel’s Grave, and the blistering and brutalising Flesheater (the solo is wicked here) to cap off a really enjoyable listening experience overall. Provided you like your death metal to come with some aged crustiness.
