Album Review: Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters – Vintage Rebel x Trauma Bond (Self Released)

British rockers Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters have returned with their brand-new album, ‘Vintage Rebel x Trauma Bond’. The album is due for release on September 12th, 2025, and is “an album for those whose souls are torn in two”.

Beth Blade explains:

This is an album for those whose souls are torn in two, for those who need to escape from real life or who wear a mask to get through their day. For the moments we’re able to forget the world and burn brightly to the music and for the nights we don’t wanna turn off the light because we fear ourselves more than the monsters. It’s two distinctive sides and personalities existing in one vessel to deliver a story.

‘Vintage Rebel’ explores the retro, the history, the old school and everything we’ve learned from the trailblazers of the past about rock and roll and what that legacy means to us with our own twist. While ‘Trauma Bond’ is something else entirely. It’s about the pain, the struggle, the fight to keep going in the face of all the darkness and being able to sit with it and still choose to move forward.

A very cool idea, delivered with impact and composure, given authenticity by a band on the form of their lives, and with the kind of widespread appeal that turns the heads of just about everyone who hears it. It’s Vintage Rebel x Trauma Bond, and it’s a mighty fine Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters’ release.

Let’s focus on what Vintage Rebel offers up first, as the band themselves describe this part of the album as being all about throwback rock and roll sounds in their various forms. Which is what we get, and then some.

Kicking off with the melodic potency of Never Let Go and it’s punchy, infectious chorus. Before we get the sing along rock and roll banger (the layered vocals are very cool) that is You Only Love Me When You’re Drunk, the groovy body shaker (cowbell included) that is Down the Front, and the powerful, emotional intensity of I Still Want You. Each, a mix of nostalgia and modern rock sensibilities, delivered with a freshness that makes for a more addictive listen.

Vintage Rebel then wraps up with Over It and A Rock N Roll Romance. With the former showcasing a bevy of memorable riffs and an incredible amount of power behind Blade’s vocals. Whereas the latter is dramatic, harmonious, impassioned, and features Arjun Bhishma of Gorilla Riot. A vocalist that fits in nicely and gives the track a richness not heard elsewhere.

Now, while Trauma Bond can be seen as a separate thing, it’s important that you understand that it’s still Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters and still rooted in rock and roll with punchy riffing, potent melody, immense vocals, and catchy choruses. It’s just that it comes from a moodier, darker, and more thought-provoking place. You’ll get a lot of this from Colour of Our Bones, alongside a chorus that is brilliant. That’s the kind of stuff we get with the Trauma Bond section of the album though.

Blade’s vocals are staggering on Damage, although the guitar solo of this one is a real head turner too. Limerence is a personal favourite and all because of the retro synth and how it’s used to make the moodiness of the track more vibrant. Then there is Dysmorphia, with its sobering lyrics and how Blade delivers them with such strength. Before You Never Screamed? and Eclipse wrap things up in satisfying fashion. The former, as theatrical as it gets, and goodness, does it hit when it powers up. The latter, embodying the different mood that Trauma Bond has.

The album, as a whole, is a staggering achievement for Beth Blade & The Beautiful Disasters and will go down as a high point in their musical career.
