Single Slam: Employed to Serve and Saarkoth

Today’s single slam features Employed to Serve and Saarkoth. You can read our thoughts about the latest singles from these bands below.

Employed to Serve – A Moment Gone Too Soon

UK metal titans Employed to Serve return with ‘A Moment Gone Too Soon’, their second new single of 2026.

The band elaborates further on the themes of their latest track:

A Moment Gone Too Soon touches on something we’re all guilty of, taking what we have for granted and not realising until it’s too late and the sands of time have insidiously slipped through our fingers, until every grain of a reality we once knew exists only in memory. However, this is not a song focused on looking back with rose-tinted glasses, far from it. This is a track that focuses on grabbing the present day with both hands and ringing every bit of happiness and opportunity out of it. At the end of the day, it’s all we truly have.

This is going to go hard in the live environment as Employed to Serve inject groove into their ferocious sound, while delivering so much heart and soul into relentless heaviness. It’s an aspect that has always made this band special, but it does feel like they’re more comfortable then they’ve ever been before and this is coming out in huge tracks like this.

Employed To Serve have also announced that they will be teaming up with the Danish deathcore powerhouse Cabal for a UK/EU co-headline tour this autumn/winter, with support from Cold Culture.

Saarkoth – Scribes of Death

Atmospheric black metal band Saarkoth are back! Announcing that their new album ‘Terra Mortua’ will be released on December 4th and releasing the new single, ‘Scribes of Death’.

I’ve got a lot of love for Saarkoth, and over the years and releases, that love has only deepened. Their three-track demo in 2017, the release that got me into them, feels like a long time ago, especially as they’ve grown into such a blackened powerhouse. Refining their edge, expanding and improving upon the melodic layers, building atmosphere in more surprising ways, and showing off flair that proves their song-writing craft is so much stronger now. I think this was the perfect track to showcase all of this, and more, while having a connective thread to the past too. It’s a fantastic listen, but trust me, there’s so much more to come.
