Horror Short Review: Uncanny Valley (2026)

Just what is the ‘uncanny valley’? Simply put, it’s a term used to describe the feeling of unease or revulsion that a person feels when looking upon humanoid robots or AI that look almost real.

This is what has inspired ACMofficial’s Alex Magaña to create a horror short that stars the talented Becky Bush as Heather. She is trying to take the perfect selfie but isn’t happy with the photos. She clearly suffers from low self-esteem as after looking at another photo, she loudly declares ‘why can’t I just look normal’? Then the lights flicker.

She takes another selfie, and this time, it shows her looking… almost human.

This is a solid short lifted by a great performance from the lead and music that adds a deeper level of sinisterness to the events going on. There’s nothing particularly original, but what it offers, is entertaining. All the ACMofficial tropes are there, including more and more merchandise in frame, but it just feels ever so slightly different. Which is enough to make it a refreshing watch.
