Interview: Talking Gaming with Peel

In this interview we talk gaming with Seb (Seb, guitars, keys, programming, backing vocals) of alternative rock band, Peel.

1. Let’s begin by going way back to the past! Specifically, your childhood and what your earliest memory of playing a video game is?

That would be the PS1 playing either Crash Bandicoot or Spyro!

2. At what age and stage of your life did you start to find yourself hooked by gaming and was there any particular thing that bore responsibility for that?

I guess it all started with those PS1 games, but the interest really grew when I discovered the AoE series on pc in the early 2000s.

3. If you could point at one or two games that defined your childhood, what would they be?

That would for sure be the AoE series, perhaps the Age Of Mythology game would be the most defining. Like every other kid with an interest in football the FIFA games was a big part of my childhood.

4. What about a system? Everyone has one that holds a very special place in their heart. SNES, PS1, N64, Xbox 360, Phillips CD-i? What’s yours and why?

Playing on a computer beats everything, but I’m a fan of the playstation consoles.

5. Do you have a particular game genre that you enjoy more than any other? If so, what is it and why? Also, what’s a game genre you almost always avoid?

There isn’t really any genre I avoid, and I don’t favor any specific genre either. If it’s a good game that’s all that matters!

6. How about multiplayer? Did you have a game that you found yourself sinking untold hours into online or do you just prefer the single player experience?

For me it started with the old COD games, and I’ve played pretty much every triple A FPS shooter out there. Looking back, Apex legends would probably be the multiplayer game that I’ve spent the most amount of hours playing.

7. What is a game or franchise that you think you’ve sunk the most time into to date and what is a game or franchise that you’ve never quite been able to get into?

I haven’t played as much LoL as I would have liked, just started playing recently. I’ve been thinking of playing LoL for many years but never really took the time.

8. Over the past couple of decades, what development within the video game industry has been revolutionary?

There have been so many, it’s hard to point out something specific. I guess how easy everything is these days compared to the old days when we used to set up LANs just to play multiplayer games.

9. Likewise, what development within the video game industry has been mostly negative for gamers overall?

Microtransactions, and end of physical sales. You don’t really own your games anymore.

10. What is one aspect of gaming (all parts) that you consistently find yourself getting nostalgic over?

Old video games in general give me some nostalgic feelings.

11. Likewise, what is one aspect of gaming (all parts) that you’d happily never experience again?

I can’t really think of anything to be honest.

12. Focusing on the now, what are you currently playing and what is enjoyable about it?

There is a game that is currently not a full release called Deadlock that I’m really enjoying. It’s a third person MOBA shooter, and I predict it’s gonna be a massive game once it’s fully released because it’s really unique. And REALLY fun.
