Interview: Catching Up with Tallboy

UK alt-metal bruisers, Tallboy, continue their swift rise with the release of their blistering new single and video, ‘The One Below All’, out now. In this interview, we catch up with them and find out what else they’ve been up to since we last spoke.

1. Hello! Welcome back. It’s been a little while, so first things first, how are you and have there been any significant changes since we last spoke?

Hello! Thanks so much for having us, all is going great on our end. We’ve recently taken on a new venture and opened our own rehearsal space for local bands and musicians. It’s also become our new HQ for recording, writing, and rehearsals, which has been really exciting for us.

2. So, what’s new? What’s keeping you busy this time around? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We’ve been incredibly busy writing and recording lately. We’ve actually stockpiled enough material for one or even two albums, now it’s just about refining everything and shaping it into a cohesive body of work.

We’ve got a release show for the new single coming up, which we’re hosting at our rehearsal space and turning into a music video shoot as well. On top of that, we’ve got a bunch of new shows that will be announced very soon!

3. Describe what fans/listeners can expect.

A whole lot of gritty, groove-heavy goodness, the kind of soundtrack made for late-night side quests and getting a little loved up.

4. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you to see it come to fruition?

It’s taken a serious amount of time, energy, and sacrifice to bring it to life. Countless late nights writing, reworking parts, recording, scrapping ideas, starting again, really just obsessing over the details until everything felt right. Having our own space has made a huge difference too; it’s allowed us to experiment freely, push ideas further, and really refine the sound without limitations.

Seeing it finally come together is honestly surreal. What started as rough demos and scattered ideas has grown into something we’re genuinely proud of. It means a lot because it represents not just the music itself, but the work ethic, the risks we’ve taken, and the belief we’ve had in ourselves to build something from the ground up.

5. Sum up what this latest development says about you and where you find yourself at this moment in time?

This latest chapter shows that we’re fully invested, not just creatively, but practically as well. We’re not waiting around for opportunities anymore; we’re building the infrastructure ourselves and creating the environment we need to thrive.

It feels like we’re at a point where the vision is clearer than ever. We’ve put the groundwork in, we’ve honed our sound, and now we’re stepping into a phase that feels focused, confident, and self-sufficient. It’s less about figuring out who we are and more about doubling down on it.

6. Has the time since we last spoke been a mostly positive period and has there been any one thing that stands out as being good?

It’s been a really positive journey so far, from playing our first live shows to putting out more music, the response has been amazing.

7. How about something that has challenged you since we last spoke? Has there been any particular thing that tested you, and if so, how did you overcome it?

Playing live for the first time definitely brought its challenges. There’s a lot of pressure to make sure everything is perfect by the time gig day rolls around, and that can be pretty stressful. Something always seems to go slightly off-kilter, but we’ve learned to adapt in the moment and push through it. Each show has made us tighter and more confident.

8. What is a realistic goal you’d like to achieve over the next 12 months?

Over the next 12 months, a realistic goal for us is to play as many shows across the UK as possible while consistently releasing new music. A big ambition of ours is to take the music overseas and start building a presence beyond the UK, so we’re excited to see how far we can push that in the year ahead.
