EP Review: Infinite Misery – Altar of Extracted Teeth (Iron Fortress Records)
Infinite Misery will release their debut EP, ‘Altar of Extracted Teeth’, on February 6th via Iron Fortress Records, available on digital, vinyl, CD, and cassette.
Do you like Cannibal Corpse? Of course you do, you filthy thing. Well, you’re not alone. So do Infinite Misery and on this debut EP, they draw from the post-Barnes era of the iconic death metal band. Delivering five gnashing and roaring efforts featuring the likes of Undeath and Damnations Domain in stellar guest spots.
Sounding particularly vicious from the start with the violent and gory Torture Rack, Infinite Misery showcase their intensity with mighty aplomb. Manic riffing, crunching drums, and scathing vocals combining to create something that is familiar, but not to the extent that it feels like a repeat of extreme metal’s greatest hits.
Undeath’s Alex Sason is downright beastly sounding on the twisted title track, an EP highlight thanks to Infinite Misery’s frenzied approach to heaviness. Whereas Cadaver to Carrion features Damnations Domain in a tornado of savage riffs and vulgar vocals and A Virulent Sadism lives up to its title in gleefully grim fashion.
The Cannibal Corpse worship continues to be prevalent right to the end with one final excuse to relish in the blood, bile, and gore of Infinite Misery’s extreme efforts courtesy of Lacerated Viscera. A solid finish to a solid EP, and one that will please fans of the extreme end of extreme metal.
