EP Review: Predatory Void – Atoned In Metamorphosis (Pelagic Records)

Predatory Void returns with their third record, an EP titled ‘Atoned in Metamorphosis’, out on February 6th, 2026, via Pelagic Records.

As transformative as ever, this new Predatory Void record is as challenging as it is interesting and sees the group push their sound into even more enigmatic and indescribable territories. A combination of noises and atmospheres, drawing from sludge, doom and black metal, but having aspects of hardcore and post layered within. It’s an intense listen, but it’s a listen that comes with depth courtesy of vocalist Lina R.

Her voice is front and centre on Make Me Whole, a disconcerting listen that has a tense vibe because of its increasing instrumental volume and repeating vocal lines. When it does finally break, and the guitars and drums erupt in explosive fashion, it’s something of a relief. Which is a template Predatory Void employ across the EP. The concept of ratcheting up the tension via a cacophony of intense sounds until the listener can barely take it anymore, before shifting the tone for some brief relief.

It’s what makes New Moon so memorable. That, and the fact that it showcases blackened speed and heaviness with freakish twists and turns. It is harsh and intense, but the moment when the relentless drive breaks and the tempo shifts is stunning.

Then there is Peeling Cycle, a track that draws from the slow, deeply dark, and doom-infused side of the band at first, but confidently slips into a more desperate, furious, and dangerous style as it goes on. It’s creative and experimental, but pales in that regard when compared to the final track, Contemplation in Time. A bewildering listen that sharply switches from avant-garde melody and near-spoken word vocals to roaring blackened covered metal.

It, like everything else here, needs time and patience to fully appreciate but the return is rewarding. Predatory Void have proven in the past to be an exciting band and this EP solidifies that reputation while moving things forward too.
