Interview: Getting to Know Attic Theory
Liverpool alt groove rock band Attic Theory have just released their explosive new single, Savour The Moment, via ThunderGun Records. The release marks an exciting new chapter for the band. In this interview, we get to know the band a little better.
1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat with us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.
We’re really grateful for the chance to connect with you! Attic Theory was born from the merger of two distinct bands, driven by our mutual desire to craft something unique and meaningful. Our name symbolises this transformative journey, highlighting our commitment to evolving and becoming the most authentic versions of ourselves.
2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?
When someone asks about our musical style, I would describe it as a fusion of alternative rock with a hint of metal. We intentionally shun the limitations of a single genre, as each track we create incorporates various influences, allowing us to keep our music fresh and engaging.
3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?
Currently, we are deeply engaged in the recording process for our second album, which we’ve titled “Small Town Monsters.” Unfortunately, we’ve encountered a few delays due to winter illnesses, but we are steadfast in our commitment to producing an exceptional body of work.

4. What is it about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?
This moment feels especially exhilarating for us. With Mike joining the lineup, our sound has taken on a new level of intensity, not only musically but also in the richness of our lyrical themes. It’s thrilling to witness everyone’s contributions, as each member brings their own unique perspective to the table, enriching our creative process.
5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.
After we wrapped up our previous album, “What We Fear the Most,” we faced a significant lineup change. However, rather than halting our momentum, we continued to forge ahead. New songs began to emerge organically, driven by a foundation of trust and open dialogue, fostering an environment of honesty and transparency.
6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?
Engaging in music creation has provided a profound sense of camaraderie among us. It serves as an outlet for expressing our emotions and thoughts through lyrics, which has been incredibly beneficial for our mental well-being, allowing us to process experiences in a constructive way.
7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?
The primary challenge we encounter isn’t so much in the act of creating music itself; rather, it lies in the shrinking number of live venues and the decline in audience attendance at concerts. To adapt to this shifting landscape, we’re planning an exciting tour in Europe next year, as the UK music scene is currently facing its own set of challenges.
8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?
I take on the responsibility of managing our online presence and promotional efforts. Drawing from my marketing background, I’ve developed effective strategies to navigate the demands of social media, ensuring that our content remains engaging while authentically representing who we are as a band.
9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable and fulfilling for yourself?
To keep the creative process enjoyable, we establish a distinct theme and brand for each album/release. This approach not only keeps our work fresh and exciting but also allows us to delve into different artistic expressions, making the journey of creation even more rewarding.
10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?
We would be incredibly grateful if our listeners could support us by downloading our music from platforms like iTunes and Amazon. Every download plays a crucial role, helping us to reach a wider audience and continue pursuing our passion.
11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?
When I’m not immersed in music, I enjoy unwinding with a good video game on PlayStation, catching up on films, or diving into the world of comics. Occasionally, I just take a moment to sit in silence and listen to white noise, which helps clear my mind and rejuvenate my spirit.
12. Where can people find you?
You can find more about us and our music at https://attictheory.co.uk. We genuinely appreciate the support and can’t wait for you to hear album 2 in full!
