EP Review: Verminthrone – Feast Of The Serpent (Self Released)

Verminthrone, the five-piece sludge crossover band, are back with their brand-new EP, ‘Feast of the Serpent’, due out on December 19th, 2025.

The ugly, violent, heavy, and intense sound that Verminthrone deliver has long appealed, but it’s even more exciting to hear them reach a new level of garishness with this EP. Sounding nastier, heavier, and rawer, but refined nicely too, this is Verminthrone at their most hostile, and subsequently, their most addictive.

The riff and drum combo of Pallor is delightful, and then you throw in throat-tearing vocals, and it becomes something even more special. A track with sludgy groove. Swab comes next, and here that groove meets a bit of thrashy tone exploding into vitriolic life as the vocals arrive. Watch out, this banger has a wicked old-school guitar solo too.

Then there is the excellent When it Rains, it Pours. A track with a bit of an expressive blend of genre mixes. There’s a deeper level of intensity here, Verminthrone not just wanting to push their sound in new, exciting, ways but doing so in driven, passionate fashion. It’s a punchy head banger with so much to unpack and all the proof anyone would need that this band is moving forward.

How you follow that beast of a track? By letting the riffs do a lot of the heavy lifting on Bloodletting. Although the vitriolic power of the vocals might be the best thing about this track. Finally, it’s Event Horizon, a crunching and crushing closing track that puts the groove-infused emphatic exclamation point on the record.

Another creative and memorable effort from Verminthrone. Except they’re sounding stronger, more focused, and more effective then ever.
