Horror Short Review: Santa’s Curse: Christmas Eve Turns Deadly (2024)

Merry Christmas! It’s the most wonderful time of the year unless you’ve ended up on Santa’s naughty list!

Directed by Luca Zanlorenzi, Santa’s Curse: Christmas Eve Turns Deadly is short film that is part of the Ciak Company’s horror anthology that reimagines iconic characters in terrifying new ways.

Claire is decorating for Christmas as the snow falls heavily outside. She is feeling jolly, until a present arrives at her door. A mysterious delivery that has a note inside informing her that she has been bad this year. Angry, and clearly thinking it’s a prank, she throws it in the bin.

Has she been naughty this year? It would seem so, as later through text messages, we see that she has been cheating on her partner.

Then there is a heavy knock at the door. Santa has come to punish her.

I like this. It looks and sounds great, is suitably festive, well-acted, and while it isn’t that scary, it does have potent sinister vibes. I also like that the villain of the piece is Santa and not some other thing. He punishes those who are naughty, it’s as simple as that.
