Interview: Getting to Know Falling Below (Written)

Falling Below are gearing up to release their captivating sophomore EP ‘Holding Out for Hope’. Ahead of the release date reveal, the band have unveiled their breathtaking new single ‘Pieces’. In this interview, we get to know them a little better.

1. Hello! Thank you for taking the time to chat to us. First things first, tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started.

Hi I’m Christo, I play guitar and write the music for our songs. I’ve been playing for around 18 years and been obsessed ever since I started. I knew I wanted to be in a band and make a living doing music, even as an 8 year old boy. Me and Alex met on a local musicians Facebook group, from there came ideas and demos, and before we knew it, a whole EP. But I’ll let him add more details on that… – Christo

Thanks for having us. Yeah, it all came together really nicely, from the moment I heard Christo’s playing, I knew that I wanted to be in a band with this guy, fortunately, we made it happen and have a great working relationship as well as becoming great friends – As for me getting started in music, it was a slightly different path, I’ve always loved singing, but started with the drums and then guitar, and even toured as a bassist supporting Whitesnake legend, Marco Mendoza on his uk tour, I can’t imagine how my life would look if music wasn’t in it. – Alex

2. Someone comes to you and asks you to sum up what kind of music you play – what do you tell them?

I’d say at our core, we’re an alternative metal band. We have the low-tuned and heavy riffs, while still blending in melody throughout. So for the non metal listener, we’re about more than just being loud and screamy. *laughs* – Christo

3. What’s currently keeping you busy? A new album/EP/single release? A new video? Playing live, or planning ahead?

We’re currently finishing up a couple of visual and promotional pieces for the EP cycle and planning out 2026 as well as working on even more new music, so yeah, it never really stops, there is always something to keep us on our toes – Alex

4. What is about this current period that is particularly exciting for you?

I’m super excited to get our new EP out to everyone. These songs are our best work yet and it’s a new direction I find very inspiring. – Christo

I have to agree with Christo here, this EP is something we’re all really proud of, releasing new music is always exciting for me, so I’m looking forward to sharing it with our fans and playing the new tracks in a live setting. – Alex

5. Tell me about the work that has gone into making it a reality and what it means to you.

Honestly, it felt pretty natural for us. We’ve all got a strong work ethic and similar vision, so even the tougher parts have just felt like progress. We enjoy the process of it all, even if things get hard, or you question yourself, but the writing, recording, building the band, is all part of the same drive to make something great. – Alex

6. Making music and being creative can be a very positive experience and can be very good for the mind. In what way has making music had a positive impact on your mental health?

It’s THE thing for my wellbeing I’d say. Whatever I’m feeling, the guitar allows me to express it in new ways that hopefully strike a chord with other people too. The whole process can change my mood instantly. If I write a cool riff, that gets me amped up and excited. If I write something a bit more emotional, it gets me in a grateful, pondering state. Basically, making music is part of my everyday life that I can’t do without – otherwise I notice a difference. – Christo

7. It can also be incredibly challenging, more so in the modern times. What have been some challenging aspects of making music and how have you overcome them?

It’s been hard staying true to what I actually feel instead of writing what people want to hear. It’s easy to chase trends, but I’ve learned to block out the noise and write what’s real, that honesty always connects more in the end. – Alex

8. How do you handle the online aspects of being in a band? Having to put out content constantly, promoting across several different social media platforms, and having your success measured in likes and follows?

From a workload standpoint, we try to share duties that play to our strengths. So one of us will write captions for a post, another will edit videos or make graphics, etc. We try not to focus too much on the stats too. They can be helpful to know what kind of content lands with our audience, but we don’t beat ourselves up if none of our posts go viral or get 1000s of likes. At the end of the day, we believe in our music and know it’ll find the right people if we’re consistent with it. – Christo

9. How do you make this part of things enjoyable, and fulfilling, for yourself?

I personally don’t find it fulfilling or enjoyable, but I know it’s got to be done. So I just focus on the fact that some day, this will all pay off. Makes it much easier to handle those day to day duties. – Christo

10. Speaking directly to listeners – what would you ask they do to help support you?

Rep our merch, buy our music, come down to a show, and don’t forget to bring your friends along, we promise to give you the best we’ve got, and we’d love to see you there. – Alex

11. Outside of music, what do you like to do to relax?

Relax? I do struggle! *laughs* Apart from guitar, I like to go to the gym, walk my dog, and video games, but mostly my evenings are me, my girlfriend and my dog just chilling on the sofa watching TV. Nothing fancy, but it does help me switch off – even if just for a bit. – Christo

12. Where can people find you?
