Interview: Talking Horror with Monkey Intrusion (Written)
Who doesn’t love a bit of horror? In this interview we spoke to progressive rock and punk band, Monkey Intrusion about all things horror.
1. What’s some of your earliest memories surrounding horror films and at what age do you think you experienced your first one?
I think I was 10. It was a film on TV.
2. What effect do you think it had on you, either positive or negative?
It shocked me but also intrigued me in some way because I couldn’t imagine something like that.
3. Do you have a particular moment in horror, be it a specific film or even a scene, that defined your childhood?
I remember very well. It was ‘The Exorcist’. The film tells of a demonic possession of a young girl. I will never forget the scene of the little girl suddenly rotating her head 360 degrees.

4. What used to scare you?
The unexpected and the paranormal.
5. How did your early experiences blossom into a love of all things horror?
It is a way to sublimate fears. And a way to escape the real horror that is the violence and cruelty we experience in our real world.
6. Do you have a particular era or style of horror that you deem the best? If so, which one, why, and what are some examples of the best of that era/style?
What I like the most are horror books, in particular the one of Stephen King. I think he is a real genius. And there is always a story of friendship and courage in them.

7. How about genres – are you a slasher fan, paranormal lover, gore-fest enjoyer, etc, or is a little bit of everything ok with you?
Definitely the paranormal things. I adored ‘The Sixth Sense’ when I saw it for the first time.
8. What’s the best horror film to watch alone and why?
My favourites: 1. The Shining 2. Alien (the first) 3. The Devil’s Advocate. They are all unforgettable for single moments of real terror, but most of the thrill is all in the suspence.
9. Likewise, what’s the best horror film to watch with a group (beers and popcorn included) and why?
Deliverance by John Boorman. You never know how a nice weekend’s tour with friends can end…
10. What is an overrated film or franchise? Please explain.
‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’ and ‘Scream’. The first movies of both franchise were great. All what followed not exactly overwhelming.

11. What is a modern horror film (the last ten years) that you just loved and why?
Definitely the series ‘The Last of Us’, not pure horror but a magnificent production.
12. What scares you now?
All the wars we have right now and senseless apathy not to stop them immediately.
