EP Review: LASTELLE – Exist – vol ii (YOU RANG? RECORDS)

Post-hardcore quintet LASTELLE will release the second half of their ‘Exist’ project on the 12th of September in the form of the EP ‘Exist – vol ii’. Out via YOU RANG? RECORDS.

The new wave of post hardcore is well and truly here and it’s all thanks to the rise of bands like LASTELLE. A band that embodies the traditional passion and power of the genre, but infuse even more alternative intensity, emotional highs, and dramatic lows into things. Which might sound par for the course with post hardcore, but LASTELLE’s anthemic capabilities and captivating charm really makes them a different beast.

Exist – vol i was special, but it didn’t have a track as gorgeous as the title track on it so that makes this EP an immediate hit for me. The absorbing vocals, the depth to the instrumental melodies… it’s brilliant, and while there is nothing as good as it elsewhere, that doesn’t stop LASTELLE delivering impassioned bangers like Tired Eyes and vibrant efforts like Bitter Roots. The latter of which uses brass to really enhance the dramatic aspects of the post-infused melody.

It’s gorgeous, but you’ll be hard-pressed to find anything that isn’t on this EP. Even when something like Bitter Seeds has heavier flourishes. I swear the duel vocal style that LASTELLE operates is one of the best aspects of their sound and it’s on proper show here. A staggering track, almost matched by the finale of The Silence Hurts the Most II, which wraps up another epic EP with an explosion of deep, touching, and potent post hardcore as only LASTELLE can deliver.
