Horror Short Review: Stalker (2024)

From David Cholewa (director/co-writer), and starring Sandra Hohenadel, comes Stalker, a ‘no-budget’ short that blends real life fears (especially those of women) and supernatural/monster-based horror.

Set in Paris, France, the short surrounds a young woman who is, having been assaulted at a party, rushing home. A thunderstorm is approaching, giving the city an ominous feel and adding to the tension. Especially as she is being followed, and the closer she gets to her home, the bolder the presence becomes.

I don’t want to spoil this, but if you’ve seen David Cholewa’s other work (2012’s Dead Shadows), you will find yourself right at home here. I had a lot of good things to say about that and it’s great to see that the creativity shown in that film is still present here. Especially as this short has a similar tone and style. What begins as more of a thriller, dealing with the genuine issue of safety for women when walking alone at night, turns into something truly horrifying.

It is so impressive, with Sandra Hohenadel delivering an immense performance, and David Cholewa keeping the viewer engaged with a well-paced story and exciting visuals.

I loved it (even if the ending made me feel a bit sick), but once again, I am left wanting so much more.
